What's Been Going On

Picture
Welcome to my professional space, where you will find information about my world of experience in education. You will also learn about offered educational consultation and coaching services.

Presently, I've been running my online teacher coaching services, EdCoach Coffee Break for educators, which is now housed on under the Services tab on this site! This is something I'm really excited about and is something I've been developing for a couple of years.

In addition to building out my EdCoaching and Consultation Services, I am working on a few other projects as well. Because I have an interest in global education and connecting with educators around the world, I do advisory work for KDSL Global, ISS Sierra Leone, and Pakistan ASCD.  In 2018, I was a collaborator in the development of a new ASCD Affiliate for the alumni of the Emerging Leaders Program and am now the President of the Emerging Leaders Alumni Affiliate (@EL_ASCD). And, finally, to stay connected to students, I continue to work as a PYP relief teacher at an international school in Singapore.

Because I was elected as an ASCD Emerging Leader 2014, a lot of my work centers on teacher connections and development. I have been fortunate to have had many opportunities through my affiliation with this wonderful group of educational leaders, I often contribute to ASCD Inservice and Express blogs here and there writing on ideas such as student-led classrooms, co-teaching, school culture, and global collaboration. I've also contributed to Pakistan ASCD's education publication, The Reformer. In 2015, I was the recipient of an ASCD Innovation Grant and in 2016-20 have presented at ASCD conferences.

Another couple of rich communities I've had the honor of joining is the National Geographic Certified Educators and Participate's Author Community. I have developed a couple of self-paced courses on for the Participate community and are available for purchase on Participate.com. These courses center on successful co-teaching partnerships and inclusive classroom practices.

My greatest passions lie in working with students to elevate their ideas, voice and action within the school and surrounding community, as well as supporting teachers in getting their students to this level. One way I try to help other educators in finding ways to learn more for themselves too, is on Ed-Talk Live - a Facebook Live show in which my cohost. My colleague, UQ, Founder of Pakistan ASCD and I interview educators and other passionate people in the field who are doing truly inspiring work in their schools and regions.

And a little farther back in time...

Take a trip with me in reverse order...

Prior to teaching and living in Singapore, I exercised a number of roles in New York City Public Schools starting in 2006. For eight years I was a classroom teacher in an integrated co-teaching setting. At the school I also held roles as classroom teacher, grade team leader, union Chapter Leader, School Leadership Team member, after-school/Saturday school teacher, and on. In my ninth and final year with the DOE I worked in the role of Pre-Kindergarten Instructional Coordinator, serving both community centers and public school pre-k program teachers.

Rewind to the birth of my career as a classroom teacher in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada - my homeland. I officially started relief teaching in the fall of 2003, and then fell into a few roles in classrooms to replace teachers on medical or maternity leaves.

Even before I began teaching, I held the position as a Special Needs Assistant, working one-to-one with students of varying degrees of extra needs. Some of the most exhausting work, but some of the most important. But I’ll be honest. I didn’t want to be a teacher.  I kind of made this realization in an interview for another type of job, and in that conversation I got to thinking.... and by putting together a new interest and a personal connection in the know of a job in a school, the birth of my career in education began. Who knew!

And here I am, twenty years later.  Still teaching, and most importantly, still learning.

Connecting to the World

Spending time connecting to people and the issues that affect millions of people across the globe means a lot to me.

Here are some organizations that I support in different ways - whether through a monthly donation, by volunteering my time or raising awareness on social media. By supporting community and global organizations, I can do my part to educate others about meeting the 2030 Sustainability Goals. We must all do our part.
